Steroid

Steroids are a class of hormones. They have varying functions, but are all
made from cholesterol.

   * Anabolic steroids are used by athletes to increase performance.
   * Corticosteroids, produced in the adrenal cortex have their effects on
     metabolism and electrolyte excretion.
   * Androgens include the sex hormones testosterone and
     dehydroepiandrosterone.
